The Power of Convenience: How Broadway At The Eccles Expands Patron Engagement With Redeemable Tickets
Imagine a world where ticketing is not just about gaining entry, but also about unlocking possibilities. That's precisely what Redeemable Tickets offer – a gateway to convenience and customization.
What are Redeemable Tickets?
In August of 2020, Broadway At The Eccles asked if we could create a new feature for their mobile app. Prior to the COVID lockdown, their subscribers received printed vouchers for parking and complimentary water. Broadway at the Eccles needed a way to deliver digital vouchers within the app and measure their use.
This inspired us to add Redeemable Tickets to Appscension’s features integrated with Tessitura®. Redeemable tickets give you all the advantages of Tessitura tickets - controlling access, tracking usage, digital access via the app - while letting you use them in locations and situations where a scanner isn’t available. Tapping the redeem button marks the ticket as used just like a scanner would have.
A redeemable ticket replaces the barcode or QR code with a button to redeem the ticket. Here’s how it works:
Broadway at the Eccles patron shows their redeemable ticket to the parking attendant or concessionaire.
The patron taps the button in front of them.
The app asks if the patron is sure they want to redeem it now.
If they tap on the “Yes” button, then it is replaced by the word “Redeemed.”.
The app sends the redemption data to Tessitura via API.
Imagine The Possibilities
How might your organization use Redeemable Tickets? Here are some possibilities to consider:
Entry to events where scanners are not available
Proof of purchase for pre-ordered merchandise or concessions to be picked up at the show
Access to pre-show and post-show activities on site like receptions and artist talkbacks
Complimentary drink tickets
Passes to behind-the-scenes tours
Invitations to participate in focus groups
Gifts of appreciation for members, subscribers, and donors
Sharing Redeemable Tickets
You may have noticed the “Send to Friend” call-to-action at the bottom of the example above. If you have Ticket Sharing enabled in your app, then your patrons can share their redeemable tickets with their friends and family.
Example: Joan bought two tickets for tomorrow’s performance of Kiss of the Spider Woman at the Rarick Center for the Performing Arts.
She wants to give the tickets to her daughter Tessa for her birthday.
She also purchased a t-shirt for Tessa to pick up at the merch table on site.
Jane opens her Rarick Center app and taps on My Tickets on the Home screen.
She opens the tickets for tomorrow’s show and taps on Send to Friend.
She enters Tessa’s email address, selects both tickets, and taps Send to Friend again.
She repeats the process for her redeemable ticket for the t-shirt.
When Tessa arrives on site with her husband, they bypass the Will Call line and have their tickets scanned by the front-of-house attendant.
Tessa goes to the merch table, shows her redeemable ticket to the vendor, and taps the redeem button.
Once the vendor sees the screen change to Redeemed, they hand the t-shirt to Tessa.
